The Benefits of In-Person Training – Weekly Update

Ken Meyer, SHRM-SCP, SPHR | Principal, KWM HR Consulting LLC

In-person training, a cornerstone of professional development, offers a myriad of benefits that cannot be replicated in remote settings. As President of New York City SHRM, it’s my staunch belief that face-to-face interactions foster a deeper level of engagement and comprehension among participants.

Firstly, in-person training cultivates a sense of community and camaraderie, allowing participants to network and exchange ideas organically. The invaluable connections formed during these sessions often lead to collaborative opportunities and mentorship, which are essential for career growth.

Secondly, the immediacy of in-person communication facilitates real-time feedback and clarification, ensuring that participants grasp complex concepts effectively. Whether it’s through interactive exercises or group discussions, the dynamic nature of face-to-face interactions fosters active learning and retention.

Moreover, in-person training provides a platform for experiential learning, enabling participants to apply theoretical knowledge gained from simulated scenarios to real life. This hands-on approach not only enhances skill proficiency but also instills confidence in tackling challenges within the workplace.

While remote training offers convenience and flexibility, it cannot rival the immersive experience and interpersonal connections forged through in-person interactions. As stewards of professional development, we must recognize and harness the unparalleled advantages of in-person training to nurture the next generation of leaders and innovators.

This is why we at New York City SHRM have committed to increasing our in-person programming for the 2023-2024 Program Year. Please consider attending at least one of our remaining in-person programs, such as our Spring Summit on April 18 at Convene (101 Park Ave.).

Be well.

President, New York City SHRM
