Prioritizing Your Well Being this Holiday Season – Weekly Update

Dear NYC SHRM Community:

As we approach the holiday season, I wanted to take a moment to share some thoughts on the importance of prioritizing our health during this festive time. While we eagerly anticipate the joy and togetherness that the holidays bring, it’s crucial to ensure that we are taking proactive steps to safeguard our well-being and the well-being of our loved ones.

First and foremost, I encourage each of you to consider getting vaccinated against the flu, RSV (Respiratory Syncytial Virus) and the COVID-19 virus. Vaccination is a powerful tool in our arsenal to protect ourselves and those around us. It not only reduces the risk of severe illness but also contributes to the overall health of our community.

As we navigate the evolving landscape of the COVID-19 pandemic, staying up to date with booster shots is equally vital. Boosters enhance our immunity, providing an added layer of protection against emerging variants and ensuring the continued effectiveness of our vaccines. By taking this step, we actively contribute to the well-being of ourselves, colleagues, friends and family members.

This holiday season let’s commit to fostering a culture of care within our community. Check in on one another; share information about vaccine availability, and encourage those around you to make informed choices about their health. We are not just colleagues; we are a supportive network that thrives when each member is at their best.

In addition to vaccination, let’s also prioritize self-care. The holiday season can be bustling and demanding, but taking the time to rest, recharge and maintain a healthy work-life balance is essential. Whether it’s a brisk walk in the crisp, winter air; moments of mindfulness; or simply enjoying a nutritious meal, these small actions collectively contribute to our overall well-being.

As we celebrate the holidays, let’s do so with the knowledge that we are actively contributing to a healthier and safer community. I wish each of you a joyful and healthful holiday season, surrounded by the warmth of loved ones and the assurance that we are collectively taking steps to care for ourselves and those around us.

Be well.

Wishing you all the best,

President, New York City SHRM
