A Message from the NYC SHRM President Stuart Friedman, SHRM-SP, SPHR

Stuart Friedman, SHRM-SP, SPHR

Dear Members and the NYC HR Community,

As we begin 2022, I want to wish you a safe, healthy, and bold new year!

I’ve sat down to write this new year message a few times and had been challenged to not use cliches or language I included in last year’s greeting for 2021. It is unfathomable that we start another year with Covid still looming over almost every aspect of our work and personal lives, but here we are.

What I am also struck by is how incredible we all are in navigating this ever-changing landscape. In tough times, us HR practitioners really show our metal! We should all take great pride in the resiliency we’ve shown as HR practitioners to be there for our organizations, teams, and each other over the last two years.

I am particularly proud of serving with such dedicated volunteer leaders at NYC SHRM! These volunteers have continued their efforts despite the uncertainty of what may happen next, to ensure the chapter provided the resources and programming necessary to assist all of us performing our jobs under such difficult circumstances.

Earlier I suggested to be bold in the new year, and after everything we’ve all been through, we feel being bold at work and in our lives is at least part of the way for us to move forward. The tried-and-true approaches and solutions often don’t cut it for these topsy turvy times and ever-changing workplaces. So, we plan to challenge you to find bold ways of tackling what lies ahead in 2022.

In the months ahead, NYC SHRM we will continue to be here for our members and also to pivot with timely virtual and in-person (when and where safe) programming. Please note that until further notice and as we have done this entire program year, any in-person NYC SHRM events will require ALL attendees to be vaccinated and to wear face masks to enter. You can read our full Covid-19 policy here.

Please regularly check our event calendar at for our latest schedule of Webinars and other events.

Unfortunately, we had no choice but to cancel our NYC SHRM Annual Holiday/New Year Celebration that we hoped to have this month. Stay tuned for a Spring Bash we are planning instead, circumstances permitting.

Please take special note of the following upcoming informative and exciting programs:

·    Third Friday monthly Webinar, this Friday Jackson Lewis will present the latest updates on Covid workplace vaccine requirements

·    Coffee Talk â€“ Virtual Networking is back!! February 10th, 8:45am

·    Bold HR, April 27thSpring Summit â€“ A mini full day conference being brought to you in-person, virtually and on demand with presentations that will reflect the sign of the times and showcase a #BoldHR in 2022.

·    Pay It Forward Volunteer Month – NYC SHRM is organizing a volunteer month from mid-March to April 2022. Volunteers will conduct a mock interview with populations adversely affected by the pandemic, such as veterans. We hope you join this great opportunity to give back to your community and share your expertise with individuals most affected by COVID-19 job losses.

I hope you will stay safe while you continue to do the good work I know you are all doing during these difficult times.

And Connect, Learn and Grow with NYC SHRM.

In service,

Stuart
